From October 14 to 18, 2024, Benguet State University (BSU) played host to the 14th Regional Symposium on Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) Highlights, organized by the Cordillera Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Resources Research and Development <\/a>(CORCAARRD). The event, themed \u201cInnovating for Sustainable Development,\u201d provided a platform for researchers, educators, and students to share their valuable insights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The University made a significant impact at the symposium, showcasing its commitment to research and innovation. The university’s booth received the \u201cMost Visited Booth Award\u201d, drawing attention for its engaging display featuring the Coffee Seed to Cup Experience Project. MPSU\u2019s booth also earned 3rd place among competing institutional displays, underscoring its popularity and the relevance of its initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MPSU researchers also excelled in the awards segment. Mark Preston Lopez was honored with the 2nd Best Paper Award for his research titled \u201cPre-service Teachers’ Experiences with Multilingual Practices in Bontoc (Philippines): A Thoughtful and Agentive Approach to Translanguaging.\u201d Meanwhile, Claire Kaplaan P. Lafadchan received the 2nd Best Poster Award for her work, \u201cReimaging the Framework of Incident Management in Bontoc, Mountain Province” and 3rd Best Poster was received by Rexton F. Chakas for his work “Towards the Final Stretch: Awareness, Attitude and Actions of Local Legislators on the Sustainable Development Goals”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The symposium provided an opportunity for MPSU students and faculty to present their research across various categories, contributing to a rich dialogue on pressing issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the AANR Category, student presenters included Ary A. Agnaya, who presented \u201cGrowth and Development of Dapdap (Erythrina variegata Linn) through Vegetative Propagation\u201d and \u201cCharacterization, Species Composition, and Population Density of Erect Bamboo Species at Banao, Natonin, Mountain Province, Philippines.\u201d In the IEET & Development Category, Aian M. Banggollay presented \u201cRefashioning Second-Hand Apparel into Eco-Friendly Bags,\u201d Ann M. Rafael showcased \u201cThe Physical Properties of Environment-Friendly Eco-Bricks Made from Soft Drink Polymers,\u201d and Steward B. Pacpac-o introduced \u201cAcceptability of a Developed Automotive Portable Tool Organizer.\u201d Under the Non-AANR Category, Clarette T. Lopez presented \u201cAbility of Student Nurses in Implementing Therapeutic Communication Techniques during Clinical Practice,\u201d while Jhary P. Lang-odan explored \u201cAssessment of Accounting Information System (AIS) Challenges of Micro and Small Cooperatives.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faculty presenters from MPSU included Jaccy Dumaliw with his research \u201cLandslide Susceptibility Mapping in Tadian, Mountain Province\u201d and Joyce Cuyangoan, who presented \u201cPotential of Golden Apple Snail (Pomacea canaliculata) Meat in Sausage.\u201d In the Education Category, Rollie C. Mejia examined \u201cBoard Examination Performance and Academic Performance of Civil Engineering Graduates at Mountain Province State Polytechnic College: Basis for System and Policy Formulation.\u201d The Socio-Cultural Category featured Luzlyn M. Agwilang, who presented \u201cExploring the Factors Influencing Organizational Commitment in a Public Higher Education Institution,\u201d and Jonnelle Fagsao, who shared \u201cGastronomic ‘Imontanyosa’ Cuisine in the Light of Theoretical Onomastics: A Preliminary Study.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MPSU’s participation in the CORCAARRD Regional Symposium highlighted its dedication to advancing research and innovation in the region. With impressive awards and a strong presence, MPSU successfully concluded its stint at the event, reinforcing its role as a leader in sustainable development and education.
