
Parents and guardians of the Universityโs 225 Criminology student interns attended the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meeting today at the auditorium.
To brief the parents/guardians and the interns, Criminology Intern Handler Dr. June S. Biangdan presented the overview of the internship program. Atty. Racquel Falangon then presented the Internship Policies and Guidelines by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
Following this, the focal persons from the tri-bureau oriented the student interns on the guidelines for the conduct of duties, work ethics, and safety precautions in the workplace. The focal persons from the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology likewise informed the parents and guardians of the responsibilities of the student interns in their units.
In his message, University President Dr. Edgar G. Cue, represented by VPAF Mr. Reynaldo P. Gayo, Jr. acknowledged the importance of the parents/guardians being informed on the processes that involve their children/wards. โHence, it is just right that you are all here so that you can hear firsthand from us the know-how of the internship program for our criminology interns,โ he added.
Likewise, in her welcome remarks, Campus Director for Bontoc Dr. Arel B. Sia-ed underscored that the meeting is not just an opportunity to discuss education strategies, but also a platform to strengthen the collaborations between the Universityโs stakeholders. Addressing the parents/guardians, she said, โYour participation today will help promote a supportive network, ensuring that your children are fully prepared to make a meaningful impact in their respective fields.โ
Integrating gender and development, Ms. Dixty L. Caranto, the Director for Gender and Development, discussed the role of Criminology professionals in addressing gender-based violence, as well as stressed the importance of mental health.
A round table discussion was conducted where the parents/guardians and the faculty members elected the PTA Officers and engaged in other matters related to the student interns.
Said PTA meeting aims to create a supportive and informed community that empowers students to succeed academically and to become responsible citizens.
