Bontoc, Mountain Province โ€“ The University strengthened its research directions through the Research and Development Program Development Workshop held on August 18โ€“19, 2025 at Coffee and Lemon, Samoki. With the theme โ€œIgniting Innovation: Strategic Crafting of MPSUโ€™s Flagship R&D Programs,โ€ the event gathered faculty members, research center directors, project leaders, and R&D coordinators to refine, institutionalize, and harmonize the Universityโ€™s priority research initiatives.

The workshop served as a venue to update the R&D programs of the Coffee Center and the Highland Agriculture Innovation Learning Center, ensuring their relevance and responsiveness to emerging trends and community needs. It also provided an opportunity to enhance the Mountain Province Research and Innovation for Indigenous Studies and Empowerment (MP RIISE) Program in preparation for its formal launching.

In addition, participants worked on crafting new flagship R&D programs that will broaden the Universityโ€™s research landscape, particularly in the areas of Mental Health and Gender Inclusivity, Institutional Digital Systems, Social Science and Policy

These complement MPSUโ€™s existing strengths and reinforce its role as a hub of innovation and research in the Cordillera.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Research and Development Unit, building on the recently crafted University R&D Agenda last August 4 and 6, 2025. This milestone demonstrates MPSUโ€™s dedication to making research endeavors relevant to the times, anchored on its new Vision, Mission, and Goals, and contributory to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

By harmonizing and institutionalizing flagship R&D programs, MPSU ensures that the research undertakings of its faculty and personnel are aligned with the development priorities at the regional, national, and international levels, while remaining grounded in the needs of the Mountain Province communities.

Through this effort, MPSU reaffirms its commitment to innovation, community empowerment, and sustainable development as it continues to expand its impact through research and knowledge creation.#
