The Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, known as RA 9003, is a comprehensive and systematic approach to solid waste management in the Philippines. The act aims to adopt a sustainable waste management system, reduce waste generation, and promote environmental protection.
In alignment with the objectives of RA 9003, Societas Scientia, an accredited organization at the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College, has taken proactive steps in addressing waste management issues. The organization consists of Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) students majoring in Science. The organization has been actively conducting activities centered around waste management, with a particular focus on recycling recyclable materials. These activities are part of a collaborative effort involving all members of the organization, which has significantly contributed to the success of their initiatives.
As a testament to their efforts, Societas Scientia was awarded 1st place in the Central Bontoc LGUโs OPLAN PERA sa BASURA Contest. This contest, led by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Bontoc and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), recognizes innovative and effective waste management practices.
The organizationโs waste management activities began on November 16, 2023, and concluded successfully on June 30, 2024. During this period, the members of Societas Scientia demonstrated dedication and teamwork, leading to their commendable achievement in the contest.
