MPSPC Hosts Webinar on Integrating Indigenous Knowledge for Sustainable Development


Demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainable development as outlined in the UN SDGs, the College strengthens the integration of Indigenous Knowledge and Practices (IKSP) into institutional frameworks by hosting a webinar, dubbed “Indigenous Knowledge Research and Community Engagement: Perspectives of Lyceum of the Philippines University and Mindanao State University” on May 10, 2024.

The Resource speakers for the event include Dr. Sorhaila L. Latip-Yusoph and Dr. Marilyn Ngales. Dr. Latip-Yusoph is the Director of the Meranaw Cultural Heritage Center and the Office of Information, Press, and Publication of the Mindanao State University. On the other hand, Dr. Ngales is the Lyceum of the Philippines’ Dean of College of Arts & Sciences and the former director of the university’s Community Outreach and Service Learning where she was personally involved in research on Indigenous Peoples as well as hands-on community work with indigenous communities such as the Dumagats of Quezon and the Aetas of Zambales.

Attended by participants from various academic institutions in the country, the webinar provided an opportunity to learn from the experiences of other universities in indigenous communities.

The webinar was initiated by the Research Development and Extension Office of the College.
