MPSPC conducts first phase of capacity building for FTSF TWGs, researchers

In its continuous stint to capacitate its Technical Working Groups (TWGs) as well as its researchers on planning approaches that can meet the College’s and the community’s social, economic, environmental, and climate change challenges, the College pushed through with the three-day activity for the first phase of the three phases of the Capacity Building on University Research Futures Thinking and Foresight today, April 24, 2024.

Funded by the Office of Senator Pia Cayetano, this activity is an offshoot of the first MPSPC Futures Framing held in May 2023. A total of 60 teaching and non-teaching personnel were selected to be capacitated to make research proposals addressing issues and challenges concerning SDGs in the four identified commodities including Coffee, Heirloom Rice, Traditional Knowledge, and Highland Vegetables. These proposals will be submitted for external funding.

For this first day, a module on Introduction to Futures Thinking & Foresight – Signals & Drivers of Change was discussed by Ms. Ma. Christine F. Reyes. The participants engaged in a workshop where they identified signals and drivers of change for their assigned commodities. Three additional modules will be presented and discussed in the coming days including Futures Triangle by Ms. Jalaine Joyce V. Malabanan, Scenario Building by Mr. Raul G. Roldan, and Introduction to Phase 2 – Field/Industry Research, Environmental Scanning by Ms. Ma. Christine F. Reyes.

This activity will run until February 26, 2024.
