College of Nursing joins PHO in capacitating healthcare professionals in the province


The College of Nursing of the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College in collaboration with the Provincial Health Office (PHO) is conducting a three-day activity dubbed, “Empowering Health Workers: Behavioral and Communication Skills Workshop” at the Dropby Inn and Restaurant, Sac-angan, Bontoc, Mountain Province today, April 16 until April 18, 2024.

The participants of the event composed of healthcare workers from the various hospitals and healthcare units in the province including Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital, Besao District Hospital, Barlig District Hospital, Bauko Rural Health Unit, Barlig Rural Health Unit, Natonin Rural Health Unit, Sabangan Rural Health Unit, Besao Rural Health Unit, Sadanga Rural Health Unit, and Bontoc Municipal Health Office.

The topics of the event include the Importance of Behavioral and Communication Skills in Healthcare and Dynamics of Behavior by MPSPC College of Nursing Dean, Mr. Alfred O. Fomocao, Jr; Understanding the Person by Ms. Lerma O. Mangallay; Basic Communication Concepts by Ms. Annie Lourie Y. Paredes; Therapeutic Relationship: Empathy and Compassion in Communication by Ms. Arlyn B. Aliping; and Assertive Training for Health Workers, Techniques for Assertive Communication and Conflict Management by Ms. Cristine Felimon.

This activity was initiated through Provincial Health Officer I Dr. Carolyne D. Yawan, Supervising Midwife Ms. Norma S. Kalang-ad, and Mr. Ray Javic C. Go of the Provincial Health Office.
