Researchers Empowered on Economic and Data Analysis


February 23, 2024 — The Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) – Research Development Unit has recently finished a three-day (February 20-22, 2024) training program titled “Enhancing Research Projects through Economic and Data Analysis” to improve the research capacities of its researchers. The purpose of the event was to provide researchers of the college with up-to-date techniques and resources for economic and data analysis.

Dr. Edgar G. Cue, President of MPSPC, gave the opening remarks for the session and commended the resource speakers for their commitment to strengthening the College’s research capacity. He further encouraged participants to investigate creative approaches to address institutional and societal concerns, stressing the value of innovation in research activities.

Mr. Han Bonoy gave a detailed talk on statistical procedures, emphasizing the importance of selecting the right tests for different situations. Mr. Bonoy also gave discussions on both experimental and non-experimental statistics. He finally introduced a free statistical software named JAMOVI which can help researchers in their statistical analysis.

Expert in economic analysis Dr. Gladys Navarro discussed the nuances of placing research within an economic framework on the second day. Dr. Navarro urged the researchers to include economic viewpoints in their work and underlined the significance of comprehending three economic trends such as market, production and consumption. During the workshop, researchers worked together across disciplines as they mapped variables related to economic trends through a practical exercise. After the workshop outputs were presented, Dr. Navarro offered helpful criticism to enhance and improve the outputs while guaranteeing that they adhered to strict research guidelines.

As the training came to an end on the third day, participants worked together to create research proposals that integrated the knowledge they had gained from the earlier sessions. The participants commended the training’s advancement of research technique and proposal creation and suggested future trainings that include more topics that could help participants gain a deeper understanding of research methods.

The successful conclusion of the training program is a significant advancement in MPSPC’s continuous endeavors to fortify its research capacity and enable faculty members to undertake inventive research projects that tackle urgent societal concerns.

This activity contributed to the promotion of innovative practices in the conduct of research and has encouraged building partnerships through research collaborations thereby contributing to the attainment of SDG 9; Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure and SDG 17; Partnership for Goals.
