
Mountain Province State University (MPSU) President Dr. Edgar G. Cue, along with other respective line agencies, convened at the Mount Data Hotel of Bauko Mountain Province to celebrate and commemorate the 38th Peace Accord or “Sipat” Anniversary today, September 13.
Being celebrated annually, it symbolizes a historic event on partnership, cooperation, trust, and respect, maintaining the ceasefire agreement by the late President Corazon C. Aquino and the Cordillera People’s Liberation Army (CPLA) led by Fr. Conrado Balweg on September 13, 1986 known as Mt. Data Peace Accord or “Sipat” which resulted in the creation of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). Moreover, this is one of the highlights in celebrating the 2024 National Peace Consciousness Month bannering the theme, “Transforming Minds, Transforming Lives.”
Meanwhile, Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) Secretary Carlito G. Galvez Jr. graced the event, serving as the guest of honor and speaker. In his message, he expressed his appreciation to the people of the Cordillera while commending the presentation of the MPSU students. Further, Secretary Galvez mentioned to strengthen partnership with MPSU to provide financial assistance to its deserving students.
Along with Dr. Cue were, Vice President for Administration and Finance Mr. Reynaldo P. Gayo Jr., Presidential Management Staffs (PMS), and MPSU’s minstrels and cultural group, who warmed up the event with their lively songs and vibrant cultural presentations.
Notable attendees who joined the event were, DOTr-CAR Regional Director Atty. Joshua P. Pablito, NEDA-CAR Regional Director Ms. Susan A. Sumbeling, DSWD FO-CAR Regional Director Maria A. Catbagan-Aplaten, DOLE-CAR Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra, Congressman Maximo Y. Dalog, Jr., represented by Political Officer of the Office of the Congressman, Mr. Dionisio Wacdisen, Provincial Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr., JEMC Vice Chairperson Engr. Andres B. Ngao-i, the daughter of Fr. Conrado Balweg, Ms. Goldamir Pag-asa Balweg, Provincial and Municipal Officials, PNP and AFP officials, representatives from different line agencies, OPAPRU officials and staff, and JEMC members.
