BONTOC — Mountain Province State University (MPSU) employees successfully combined physical fitness, healthy competition, and environmental conservation early Saturday morning, July 4, 2026. The “Brewing Eco-Move: Run with Resilience,” an official community engagement activity of the MPSU employees, saw participants collect an impressive 97 kilograms of non-biodegradable waste during its Fun Run and Plogging event.
The 5:00 AM gathering at the MPSU Frontage also served as the official launchpad for the MPSU Gender Responsive Wellness & Sports Fest 2026: Fostering Healthy Lifestyles, Inclusive Participation and Workplace Unity.
Accommodating various fitness levels, the fun run featured 3km, 4km, 5km, and 7km race distance categories. Embodying the event’s core motto, “Run for Health. Plog for Nature,” employees across all distances actively participated in the plogging initiative. Armed with garbage bags, participants jogged along their designated highway sectors toward the Latang Bridge Checkpoint, diligently clearing the route of litter.
Upon reaching the designated checkpoints, runners surrendered their bags for official auditing and weighing, which ultimately yielded a massive 97-kilogram haul of legitimate, non-biodegradable waste.
The kickoff event celebrated the athletic achievements and environmental dedication of the participating faculty and staff. The top finishers, plogging champions, and special awardees are as follows:

Organizers attributed the smooth execution of the dual-event to the overwhelming support and coordination of local security, student groups, and university offices. Event coordinators extended their heartfelt gratitude to several key organizations, including the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) for securing the route, ensuring strict safety protocols, and supporting the runners throughout the course.
They also thanked the Criminology Interns for their vital role in crowd control, route orientation, and logistical assistance, as well as the MPSU Varsity for their infectious energy and hands-on help in facilitating the activities from the starting line assembly to the finish line validation. Furthermore, special thanks are extended to the General Services Office and the Health Services Unit for their essential logistical assistance and for ensuring the health and well-being of all participants throughout the morning.
By stepping out to run, plog, and inspire, the employee groups proved that collective action can make a greener future. The successful Saturday morning community engagement activity effectively set a high bar for the rest of the 2026 Sports Fest, reinforcing the university’s drive for a “Cleaner Campus, Healthier Employees, and a Stronger Community.”
The activity was successfully facilitated by the Sports and Recreations Unit, Events Management Office, Extension Unit and Gender and Development Office.
