MPSU strengthens health awareness among students


01 July 2026 – Student representatives from the various colleges and departments of Mountain Province State University (MPSU) participated in Kalusugan ng Kabataan: A Multi-Topic Health Orientation on Priority Public Health Concerns today, an initiative conducted in partnership with the Provincial Health Office to promote health awareness and informed decision-making among the youth.

The program formally opened through the welcome remarks of University President Dr. Edgar G. Cue, delivered by his representative, Chief-of-Staff Dr. Karen B. Cue. Meanwhile, Dr. Carolyn D. Yawan, PHO I, delivered an inspiring message highlighting the importance of health education and preventive healthcare among young people.

Health professionals from the Provincial Health Office led the sessions. Ms. Venie Nefelle A. Gumihid, HEPO II, discussed adolescent health and highlighted the importance of responsible choices, healthy habits, and overall well-being. Meanwhile, Ms. Febbylaine Maynga P. Fillag, HEPO III, also gave a session on HIV 101, sharing key information on prevention, awareness, and the need to fight stigma through education.

Said program forms part of the Provincial Health Office’s continuing effort to raise awareness on priority health concerns such as adolescent health, HIV and sexually transmitted infections, environmental health and sanitation, and other issues relevant to the youth sector.

Through activities like this, MPSU continues to strengthen its partnership with government agencies and help students become more informed advocates of health and wellness in their communities.
