In collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Mountain Province State University (MPSU) formally launched the second phase Shared Service Facilities (SSF) on Coffee Processing yesterday, August 4, 2026, at MPSU Baang, Bauko, Mountain Province.
The journey toward this milestone began in 2018 during the Provincial Coffee Conference, where stakeholders adopted a shared vision of prioritizing quality over quantity, recognizing Mountain Province’s potential for specialty coffee production. This vision led to the establishment of the Montañosa Coffee Center and the first phase of the Shared Service Facilities (SSF) project, laying the foundation for the launch of this second phase.
This progress was made possible through the stewardship of University President Dr. Edgar G. Cue, whose strong partnerships with the public and private sectors have significantly contributed to the growth and development of the center.
In his message, Dr. Cue reaffirmed the university’s commitment to the success and sustainability of the project.
“Through the Shared Service Facilities Program, you have provided not only resources but also a platform for innovation, productivity, and inclusive growth. Rest assured that Mountain Province State University recognizes the value and importance of this project. We commit to ensuring that this project will be properly managed, maintained, and maximized for the benefit of our students, faculty, coffee growers, entrepreneurs, and the wider community,” he said.
Dr. Cue also expressed his sincere gratitude to DTI Regional Director Atty. Raymond G. Panhon, DTI Provincial Director Ms. Mabel F. Banggawan, the Local Government Unit of Bauko led by Mayor Randolph T. Awisan, Municipal Agriculturist Ms. Caroline B. Wandalen, MPSU Baang Campus personnel, and all stakeholders whose support made the initiative possible.
The project represents more than an investment in modern coffee processing equipment. It is a testament to a shared vision that began several years ago and continues to bear fruit through the collective efforts of the government, the academe, and the province’s coffee stakeholders. Together, they strengthen an industry where identity, heritage, and pride are reflected in every cup of Mountain Province coffee.
Following the program, DTI Mountain Province and Mountain Province State University formalized their partnership through the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and Usufruct Agreement (UA) for the effective management and sustainability of the Shared Service Facility.
