MPSU concludes “Adopt a Dorm, Build a Future” project with food packaging training

Mountain Province State University (MPSU), through the College of International Hospitality and Sustainable Tourism Management (CIHSTM), concluded its “Adopt a Dorm, Build a Future: Livelihood Training Behind Bars” extension project with the conduct of the Food Packaging Life Cycle Management training today, August 14, at the Mountain Province District Jail in Sitio Bilibid, Upper Caluttit, Bontoc, Mountain Province.

The culminating activity focused on branding and logo development for bakery products, creative and functional packaging design, packaging methods for quality and shelf-life protection, and entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihood through bakery products.

Said activity marked the completion of a series of livelihood and skills development activities conducted under the project. These included the Information Dissemination on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP); Carrot Cheese Muffin Making; Donut, Long John, and Pandesal Making; Food Costing; and the culminating Food Packaging Life Cycle Management training.

The project, implemented in partnership with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), aims to equip Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) with practical skills and knowledge that can support livelihood opportunities and self-reliance.

The successful conduct of these series of activities reflects the university’s commitment to bringing education behind bars while supporting the Memorandum of Agreement between the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology–Mountain Province District Jail (BJMP-MPDJ) and MPSU, titled “Adopt a Dorm, Build a Future: Livelihood Training Behind Bars,” signed on June 24, 2025.
