University President Dr. Edgar G. Cue graced the Strengthening the GAD Technical Working Group (TWG) through Capacity Development and Gender Mainstreaming held today, September 8, at Admin Conference Hall, MPSU, Bontoc, MP, reaffirming the University’s commitment to building a safe, inclusive, respectful, and gender-responsive community.
In his message, Dr. Cue reminded the participants that some of the things that hurt people are not necessarily the words we say, but the behaviors and beliefs that society has learned to consider “normal.”
He cited common experiences that reflect gender stereotypes- from telling a woman to be quite because she is “too emotional,” to telling a man that he should not show weakness because “men should be strong,” emphasizing how people can be judged or overlooked because of how they dress, speak, behave, or express themselves.
For Dr. Cue, these seemingly small actions can reinforce stereotypes and make others feel less valued.
“GAD is not simply about policies, seminars, programs, or compliance. IT IS ABOUT PEOPLE,” Dr. Cue emphasized.
As the University continues to strengthen its GAD initiatives, Dr. Cue called on GAD-TWG and the entire MPSU community to transform awareness into meaningful and sustained action.
He concluded his message with three simple reminders:
