CTE Strengthens Pre-Service Teacher Preparation Through Field Monitoring and Evaluation

The Supervising Instructors of the College of Teacher Education are currently conducting field monitoring and evaluation of pre-service teachers undergoing their clinical practice in various cooperating schools in Mountain Province, Benguet, and Kalinga.

The field monitoring covers student teachers from the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED), Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED), Bachelor of Special Needs Education (SNED), and Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (ECED) programs. The pre-service teachers are completing their experiential learning requirements through Field Study 1 (Observation) and Field Study 2 (Participation), which provide opportunities to connect what they have learned in the classroom with actual school experiences.

As part of the monitoring activity, Supervising Instructors meet with the pre-service teachers and their cooperating or critique teachers to gather feedback and discuss their progress. The visits focus on important areas such as lesson planning, teaching skills, classroom management, professional behavior, and participation in school activities.

The monitoring team is led by Supervising Instructor Olivia L. Yangat, who oversees the BEED, SNED, and ECED pre-service teachers, together with Supervising Instructors Dr. Brent Joseph D. Bangao and Dr. Annie Grail F. Ekid, who supervise the BSED pre-service teachers.

According to the Supervising Instructors, the field visits are ongoing as they continue to reach the different cooperating schools. The activity is not only meant to check the progress of the pre-service teachers but also to provide guidance, feedback, and support as they gain experience in actual school settings.

Through regular communication with cooperating teachers, the Supervising Instructors are able to identify the strengths and areas for improvement of the pre-service teachers. The monitoring also provides an opportunity to address concerns encountered during their field placement and offer practical suggestions to improve their teaching performance.

The field monitoring and evaluation are still ongoing, as the Supervising Instructors continue to visit the remaining cooperating schools in Mountain Province and Benguet. The College of Teacher Education continues to strengthen its partnership with cooperating schools to ensure that pre-service teachers receive meaningful guidance and experiences as they prepare for their future roles as professional educators.
