Mountain Province State University (MPSU) joined the Department of Science and Technology–Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR), the Provincial Local Government Unit of Mountain Province, and the Municipal Local Government Unit of Bauko in signing a Memorandum of Agreement for Project SARAI Kordilyera on October 6, 2026, in Bauko, Mountain Province.
Said partnership aims to bring localized climate information, technologies, and science-based services closer to farmers, providing them with information that can support better decision-making, risk management, and climate resilience.
MPSU President Dr. Edgar G. Cue was represented by Dr. Epiphania B. Magwilang, Vice President for Innovation, Research, Development, Publication, and Extension, who delivered the President’s Message of Support.
“Today’s partnership is more than the signing of an agreement. It is a commitment to turn knowledge into action and innovation into meaningful change in our communities,” President Cue emphasized.
He reaffirmed MPSU’s commitment to contribute through research, capacity building, extension, and the meaningful engagement of its faculty and students, stressing that higher education must ultimately use knowledge to improve lives.
DOST-CAR Regional Director Dr. Nancy A. Bantog also highlighted the partnership as a continuation of existing collaborations among DOST-CAR, MPSU, and LGU-Bauko, including ClimaPestDetect, an AI-powered initiative that supports the early detection, monitoring, and management of pests and diseases affecting highland vegetable crops. The initiative demonstrates how research, technology, and local partnerships can be brought together to provide practical solutions for farmers.
Messages of support were likewise delivered by Provincial Administrator John K. Likigan, representing Mountain Province Governor Hon. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan Jr., and Bauko Municipal Mayor Hon. Randolf T. Awisan, affirming the commitment of the provincial and municipal governments to the initiative.
For MPSU, Project SARAI Kordilyera strengthens an already growing partnership that connects research and innovation with the actual needs of farming communities.
As President Cue underscored, “Together, let us bring science closer to our farmers, technology closer to our communities, and opportunity closer to the people we serve.”
This initiative reflects MPSU’s university-wide commitment to advancing research, innovation, extension, and partnerships that contribute to sustainable and climate-resilient communities.
