Beyond the elegance of fine dining lies a deeper lesson: the importance of being present for the people who matter most.
This was the heart of the message delivered by University President Dr. Edgar G. Cue during the Social Orientation Fine Dining on October 17 held at Basil and Lime, Samoki, Bontoc, MP as he encouraged students to embrace not only proper etiquette but also gratitude, respect, and meaningful connections.
Said event also featured guest speaker Patrolman Christian N. Cruz, who joined the event in promoting the importance of social etiquette and responsible conduct.
Through Ms. Jeanlee W. Villaruz, Dr. Cue reminded the audience that despite the ease of digital communication, we often forget to spend quality time with our loved ones. He encouraged students to appreciate their parents’ sacrifices and show their love by making time for them, listening, and simply asking, “Ma, Pa, kumusta naman kayo?”
Anchored on the theme, “Gourmet & Grace: A High-Altitude Fine Dining Soiree in Social Etiquette and MPSU Coffee Heritage,” the event went beyond learning dining protocols. Dr. Cue emphasized that true elegance is not defined by appearance or possessions, but by how people make others feel through kindness, consideration, and respect.
“No Wi-Fi required. No subscription fee. Just our time,” he remarked, underscoring that the most meaningful connections do not require technology, only presence.
He then challenged students to be fully present during the event and, more importantly, bring its lessons home by making time for family, listening attentively, and expressing gratitude. He reminded them that good manners extend beyond the dining table and are reflected in everyday interactions.
“Wherever life takes you, never become so successful that you forget to be grateful, so busy that you forget to be present, or so connected to the world that you become disconnected from the people who matter most,” Dr. Cue concluded.
