MPSU College of Teacher Education Fortifies Special Needs Education Program Through Benchmarking at DeafEd Philippines

BAUAN, BATANGAS — In a proactive move to elevate the quality of special education, the College of Teacher Education (CTE) of Mountain Province State University (MPSU) successfully concluded a two-day benchmarking activity at DeafEd Philippines in Bauan, Batangas, held on October 15–16, 2026.

The delegation was spearheaded by CTE Dean Dr. Annie Grail F. Ekid and Bachelor of Special Needs Education (BSNED) Program Chairperson Mr. Alvin L. Katano, alongside the college’s dedicated faculty members.

Upon arrival, the MPSU-CTE team was warmly welcomed by DeafEd Philippines Administrative Officer Ma. Jhonamarie Fandagani and Ms. Susan Baril.

The primary objective of the benchmarking activity was to strengthen MPSU’s Bachelor of Special Needs Education program, specifically focusing on the enhancement of its extension curriculum and instructional methodologies.

During the visit, both institutions engaged in fruitful discussions and the exchange of best practices. Key areas of collaboration included capacity-building for BSNED faculty members through specialized training and seminars, particularly in the development of targeted instructional materials for BSNED learners. A significant portion of the dialogue also centered on providing comprehensive training in the Filipino Sign Language (FSL) to further equip educators with essential communication tools.

Additionally, initial discussions were held regarding potential partnerships through a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) or Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), paving the way for future collaborative projects between MPSU and DeafEd Philippines.

With the insights gained from this benchmarking activity, MPSU-CTE aims to refine its curriculum and instructional approaches, ensuring that its future educators are well-equipped with the practical skills and inclusive teaching strategies necessary to serve learners with special needs effectively.
