To orient the emergency faculty members of the University with the legal aspect of their employment and train them with the proper way of designing an OBE syllabus, an activity dubbed Induction of Newly Hired Faculty Members (Part 2) and Syllabus Writeshop was held today, 19 February 2025 at the Coffee and Lemon, JBA Building, Samoki, MP.

The Induction of Newly Hired Faculty Members is a sequel to last semester’s induction which focused on the professional and academic aspects of their employment. For this semester, the theme evolved on the legal side of employment and complying with requirements. Executive Assistant to the President Atty. Dublin O. Facullo discussed the anti-discrimination and harassment policies: its implications in the workplace and classroom and employment contracts. These topics emphasized the importance of legal compliance and adherence to institutional policies and procedures, and legal mandates affecting their functions.

To address also the utilization of unapproved syllabi, a major problem that was observed last semester, a workshop on designing the OBE syllabus was facilitated by the Director for Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Rhoda Basco-Galangco. The OBE syllabus is crucial because it ensures that both instructors and students are aligned with clear, measurable learning outcomes and a structured plan for achieving those outcomes.

University President Dr. Edgar G. Cue represented by CAO Atty. Dexter C. Lingbanan underscored the importance of a well-structured and comprehensive syllabus to the faculty members. “As a faculty, you have to understand that designing your syllabus should not be understated as this is like a contract between you and your students that could give you confidence and can support you as you go on with your teaching duties.”

Through this activity, the emergency faculty members were better equipped to adhere to institutional policies, design effective syllabi, and foster a learning environment that is both legally compliant and outcome-driven. The University remains dedicated to continuously enhancing faculty development, ensuring that they are well-prepared to meet the challenges of teaching and providing quality education to students.
