SEMINAR ON REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH FOR MPSPC EMPLOYEES AND STUDENTS


As part of the celebration of National Women’s Month, Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC), through its Gender and Development (GAD) Unit, in coordination with the Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital (LHMRH), conducted a seminar titled “Seminar on Reproductive Health for MPSPC Employees and Students” at the College Auditorium, Bontoc, MP on March 5, 2024 at the College Auditorium.

In line with the World Health Organization’s advocacy to strengthen the concept of integrated reproductive health, the activity objective centered on acquainting the institution’s faculty and staff with addressing reproductive health-related problems for the enhancement of life and personal relations. Moreover, the seminar included talks on students understanding the changes in their bodies during puberty and other related topics such as Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI). These initiatives aimed to inform the participants on safe and positive choices about sexuality, sexual health and to provide healthcare services that have long-term implications for their health and well-being.

College President Edgar G. Cue warmly welcomed medical practitioners from the Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital, namely Dr. Richard G. Malicdan, Medical Officer IV under the OB-Gyne Department, and Dr. Dyesebel Balisongen, Medical Specialist II under the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department.

Accompanying them were Ms. Parline Angyap T. Ullalim, Director for Gender and Development, Mx. Alfred O. Fomocao, Dean of the Nursing Department, and the medical team from the Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital. Dr. Mark Preston S. Lopez delivered his welcome remarks to employees, students and visitors from LHMRH. College President Edgar G. Cue in his message emphasized that the College, being a premier higher education institution (HEI) in the province, is accountable for the overall development and well-being of its students to become transformational forces within the school and the community.

Dr. Richard G. Malicdan talked on HIV Awareness and Cervical Cancer Awareness followed by Mr. Alfred Fomocao on Women’s Reproductive Health: Teen Prgnancy, Ms. Lerma Mangallay on Infertility and Contraception, and Ms. Yvette Dumalhin on Maternal and Infant Health. Dr. Arel B. Sia-ed closed the program.

The GAD Unit of the College in collaboration with the LHMRH continued to conduct a Seminar of Reproductive Health entitled: Empowering Minds, Nurturing Bodies at the IPED Center, Tadian Campus on March 06, 2024. Dr. Geraldine L. Madjaco welcomed the students and employees from Tadian Campus at the same time the partners from the LHMRH. Dr. Madjaco shared also the message of the College President.

Dr. Jon Alex Mosuela from Luis Hora Regional Memorial Hospital shared a topic on HIV Awareness and Dr. Jhanice Paredes regarding Cervical Cancer Awareness. Ms. Adella II Bantasan closed the program thanking the organizers and the partner agency who unlocked the invitation.
