Mountain Province State University recently participated in a significant Basic Research Ethics Training (BRET) hosted by the Cordillera Health and Research Development Consortium in partnership with the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) on December 17-18, 2024, at the University of the Cordilleras in Baguio City. This two-day training aimed to enhance the competencies of Research Ethics Committee (REC) members in navigating the complexities of research ethics, an essential component for maintaining integrity in research practices.
The event brought together a diverse group of participants dedicated to upholding ethical standards in research. Esteemed facilitators led discussions on critical topics such as informed consent, cultural sensitivity, and the ethical responsibilities of research committees. Among the attendees were MPSU REC representatives Mr. Glen Gayagay and Dr. Julie Grace Mi-ing-Docallas, who shared valuable insights from their experiences.
A notable aspect of the training was a workshop designed to equip participants with practical strategies for addressing ethical dilemmas in research. Through engaging in case studies and group activities, attendees gained hands-on experience applying ethical principles to real-world scenarios, reinforcing their commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of research participants.
The Cordillera Health and Research Development Consortium is committed to continuing capacity-building initiatives like BRET. It recognizes that well-informed ethics committee members are crucial for fostering a culture of ethical research in the region.
This training is part of MPSU’s ongoing efforts to ensure that its faculty and students are well-prepared to conduct research ethically and responsibly. By participating in such initiatives, MPSU strengthens its commitment to promoting responsible research practices that prioritize the dignity and rights of individuals involved in research studies.
