To provide faculty members of the School of Criminal Justice Education and Liberal Arts (SCJELA) with innovative tools and approaches to engage with traditional knowledge, particularly in crime prevention practices, a workshop on leveraging design thinking to prioritize traditional knowledge was carried out today, 21 November 2024.
In addition, this workshop capacitated the participants in addressing traditional knowledge topics with sensitivity and ensured that research outputs are impactful and are aligned with the key research agenda of the University on Traditional Research. Thus, said workshop is crucial in integrating and prioritizing traditional knowledge effectively, in academic and applied research.
In his message, which was delivered by Bontoc campus Director Dr. Arel B. Sia-ed, University President Dr. Edgar G. Cue reminded the participants that as teachers and mentors, they have the power and unique drive to inspire, encourage, and teach their students on incorporating [traditional] knowledge in their research outputs. “You have to bear in mind that we are not only preserving the rich traditions we had but also enriching them,” he added.
