Abatan, Bauko, Mountain Province (January 23, 2025) —In a significant achievement for its nursing program, Mountain Province State University (MPSU) has ensured the return of Level 2 students to their clinical affiliation at Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital (LHMRH). This positive development follows a meeting between the MPSU- School of Healthcare Education Dean, coordinators, and LHMRH leadership, where key agreements were reached to strengthen nursing education in the province.

Dean Alfred O. Fomocao Jr., Associate Dean Annie Lourie Y. Paredes, and Level Coordinators Monalisa N. Mendoza, Lerma O. Mangallay, Arlyn B. Aliping, and Pearly Olivette K. Chakas met with LHMRH Medical Center Chief Dr. Eduardo Calpito, Assistant Chief Nurse Jane T. Layagan, and Nurse IV Russel Tupac on Thursday.

Dean Fomocao successfully advocated for the students’ return, emphasizing the importance of real-world experience: “Learning at LHMRH bridges the gap between classroom theory and the realities of nursing, shaping well-rounded professionals.”

In addition to securing the re-entry of students, MPSU-SHCE also gained approval for the integration of adjunct faculty. This initiative aims to foster closer collaboration and specialized instruction, further enhancing the quality of education for aspiring nurses.

Dr. Calpito welcomed the return of MPSU students, stating, “We are dedicated to providing a robust learning environment.” He also stressed the importance of patient safety, emphasizing the need for diligent supervision and error prevention.

Following their successful meeting at LHMRH, the MPSU team continued their efforts to expand learning opportunities for nursing students. They visited the Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (DATRC) – Mountain Province to follow up on their intent for an affiliation with the agency.

The team was received by Mr. Jemel A. Cayamdas, Nurse III of DOH-DATRC-MP. Discussions focused on the roles and responsibilities of both parties, exploring how the affiliation could benefit both students and the agency. This potential partnership signifies MPSU’s dedication to providing diverse and comprehensive clinical experiences for their nursing students.

The successful collaborations with LHMRH and the potential partnership with DATRC highlight MPSU’s commitment to providing high-quality nursing education and contributing to the development of skilled healthcare professionals in Mountain Province.#
