The College Education Behind Bars (CEBB) Program traces its roots when Mountain Province State University (MPSU), under the leadership of University President Dr. Edgar G. Cue, launched an extension initiative to bring higher education to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).
Continuing this commitment, Dr. Cue graced the PDL student orientation for the CEBB Program today, July 29, at the Mountain Province District Jail (MPDJ).
In his inspirational message, he emphasized the transformative power of education.
โNais kong ipaalam sa inyo na naniniwala ang MPSU na ang edukasyon ay susi sa pag-asa, pag-unlad, at panibagong pagkakataon. Naniniwala kami na ang bawat tao ay may kakayahang matuto, umunlad, at maabot ang kanyang mga pangarap,โ Dr. Cue declared.
Also present during the event were MPDJ officials headed by Jail Chief Inspector Sir John S. Melecio, together with MPSU officials, faculty, and staff.
Since its launch, the program has helped many PDLs access college-level education and continue their studies despite being in detention.
At present, five PDLs are actively enrolled under CEBB, and one of them is on track to graduate this yearโmarking a significant milestone for the initiative.
The orientation highlighted MPSUโs dedication to extending educational opportunities to all sectors of society, affirming that learning is a pathway to hope, growth, and renewed chances for a better future.
Today, the CEBB Program stands as a beacon of empowerment, reminding every learner that education is not confined by walls but opens doors to dignity, self-improvement, and the pursuit of dreams.
