Mountain Province State University (MPSU)-Team MPSU Rookie Rooters brought pride to the University after securing fourth place in the recently concluded HackForGov 5 – Cordillera Regional Competition, competing against 12 teams from colleges and universities across the Cordillera Administrative Region.
Representing MPSU were Xyrl Clint L. Pudlao, Angelica G. Ingin, Shekiana Mae B. Botdoy, and Meirus Blaise N. Bay-Os, students from the College of Accountancy, Business Management, and Information Technology (CABMIT). Under the guidance of their coach, Mr. Philip L. Balagtey, the team demonstrated cybersecurity proficiency, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills throughout the competition.
The regional competition featured the Capture-the-Flag (CTF) challenge, which tested participants’ ability to analyze and solve cybersecurity problems under pressure. For the MPSU Rookie Rooters, the competition provided an opportunity to put their technical knowledge into practice while working together to overcome complex challenges.
Adding to the team’s achievement, Meirus Blaise N. Bay-Os earned a spot among the Top 10 Individual Scorers in the HackForGov 5 competition. His recognition highlights his technical skills, perseverance, and ability to tackle challenging cybersecurity problems under pressure.
The team’s fourth-place finish, coupled with Bay-Os’ individual recognition, reflects the growing cybersecurity capabilities of MPSU students and their readiness to engage in the rapidly evolving field of information and communications technology.
Beyond the awards and rankings, the MPSU Rookie Rooters’ performance demonstrates the value of developing skills in cybersecurity, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving-competencies that are increasingly important in today’s digital landscape.
