ACADEMIC AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM || Day 4: Brewing culture, from soil to cup, woven in tradition

International delegates of the Academic and Cultural Exchange Program immersed themselves in the coffee and textile traditions of Mountain Province at Mountain Province State University (MPSU)-Bauko on September 19, 2026.

Organized and hosted by MPSU, with University President Dr. Edgar G. Cue, the activity brought the delegates closer to the local coffee industry through a hands-on journey from soil to cup.

The experience began with planting coffee seedlings and continued through dehulling, selecting and preparing dried coffee seeds, processing, brewing, and tasting. By taking part in each step, the delegates experienced how much work goes into producing the coffee that eventually reaches the cup.

The immersion then moved from coffee fields to the lettuce hydroponic plantation, where the delegates were introduced to a different approach to growing crops. The visit gave them a glimpse into how agricultural practices continue to evolve while remaining closely connected to local food production.

From agriculture, the delegates then turned to the artistry of Cordilleran weaving. They explored traditional woven pieces from Mountain Province and learned about the craftsmanship reflected in each textile. They also had the opportunity to wear ethnic attire, making the cultural experience more personal and memorable.

Beyond the activities themselves, the day offered the delegates a glimpse into the everyday knowledge and traditions that make up Cordilleran culture-from growing and preparing coffee to preserving weaving practices passed through generations.

Day 4 of the exchange program thus became more than a series of activities; it was an opportunity to learn by doing, connect through culture, and carry a piece of Mountain Province with them through shared experiences.
