The Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) program of Mountain Province State University (MPSU) successfully concluded its Hospitality Extension Livelihood Training Program (HELP) with a closing ceremony yesterday, August 14, 2025, at Mountain Province District Jail (MPDJ).
The training focused on baking carrot cheesecake muffins as a livelihood skill for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), providing them with opportunities to develop practical abilities that could support future economic independence.
Conducted under the School of International Hospitality and Sustainable Tourism Managementโs (SIHSTM) extension initiative titled โAdopt a Dorm, Build a Future: Livelihood Training Behind Bars,โ the program aimed to empower participants with skills that could pave the way for personal transformation and reintegration into society.
โLet us all remember that empowerment is like baking. It starts with the right ingredients, patience, dedication, kindness, and courage. And when these are mixed together and given the right time to rise, they create something beautiful and life-changing,โ said MPSU President Dr. Edgar G. Cue, in a message delivered by Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Dexter C. Lingbanan during the program.
Dr. Cue also commended the BSHM faculty and staff for their dedication to empowering individuals through education and mentorship. He also expressed gratitude to MPDJ for fostering a meaningful partnership that supports marginalized sectors of society.
The program concluded with the awarding of certificates to participants by Atty. Lingbanan. Certificates of recognition for the facilitators were also presented by MPDJ Acting Jail Warden JINSP John S. Melecio, represented by SJO3 Marcelo Bagwan Jr.
