
Gov. Leonard G. Mayaen Sports Complex— Students and personnel from the University participated in the recently concluded forum and session on IPs protection from illegal recruitment and human trafficking today, 04 August 2025.
Bearing the theme, “From Timicheg to Date: Protecting Indigenous People from Illegal Recruitment and Human Trafficking,” the event was a joint effort of Department of Migrant Workers, Provincial Government of Mountain Province and the Mountain Province State University.
Welcoming the participants, University President Dr. Edgar G. Cue, represented by Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Dexter C. Lingbanan encouraged them speak for those who have been silenced, act for those who have been taken and protect those among who may not even know they are at risk. “We came to transform pain into power– through education, awareness, and collective action,” he added.
During the session, various topics were presented and discussed by the panelist.
Atty. Cheryl L. Daytec, OIC Regional Director of DMW RO-CAR, delivered โThe Story of Timicheg: A Historical Reflection on Indigenous Exploitation.โ
Mr. Rexton Falag-ey discussed โUnderstanding Global Migration: Pathway to Safe, Orderly, and Regular Movement.โ
Atty. Clifford Lambis, who represented Provincial Prosecutor Atty. Golda Calaoa-Bagawi, presented โWhat the Law Says: Remedies and Protection from Illegal Recruitment and Human Trafficking.โ
To make the forum more interactive, perspectives from various sectors through four reactors were also voiced out. The reactors asked questions to the panelists and shared their key takeaways. They were Mr. Jason F. Paleg (academe perspective), Mr. Cyril P. Cacay ( OFW perspective), Ms. Dina C. Ponciano (OWWA perspective) and Mr. Neil Ford Dumanas (student perspective).
Aside from students and personnel from the University, the event was also attended by high school and senior high school students from Saint Vincent’s School, Mountain Province General Comprehensive High School and All Saints Mission Incorporated School, Provincial Youth Development Officer Mr. Arthur Odsey, PLGU personnel and community representatives.#
