This semestral initiative focuses on promoting environmental stewardship through active reduction of waste and pollution in and along the Chico River. This ensures a cleaner and safer ecosystem not only for all community members but also for animals and plants thriving in the river.

The collaboration of the Societas Scientia members, Criminology students, Teacher Education Science, English, & Social Studies Faculty, and Campus Administrator led to the clean-up of litter that accumulated to at least 40 trash bags. These include residual and recyclable waste collected along the road and the riverbank. Additionally, students pulled weeds and trimmed overgrown plants in areas fronting the Chico Bridge.

In an interview with the Bontoc Campus Administrator, Arel B. Sia-ed, she shared her hopes of having more residents of the various central barangays to join in this environmental initiative for them to see for themselves the solid waste situation in their community, and hopefully make better personal environmental choices which will eventually lead to a better community.

Kagawad Caesar Bandonill of Barangay Poblacion also shared that the Barangay looks forward to more partnerships with the university on efforts relating to the welfare of the environment and its residents.

Students who participated also shared their realizations. โ€œThe clean-up drive showed me how much our habits affect the environment,โ€ shared Joel, a student enrolled in STS. โ€œIt made me want to change how I use and throw things away. I think it is important for everyone to take responsibility to help the environment last,โ€ he added.

The clean-up drive started in September and will conclude on October 25 with focus at Samoki.#
