
The Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) joins nationwide observance of National Women’s Day. In solidarity with the entire country, commemorated National Women’s Day on March 8, 2024 with the theme, “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society.”
The Provincial Government, in partnership with the Bontoc Municipal Local Government Unit, spearheaded the activities. The provincial festivities commenced with a civic parade, with the participation of various government and non-government agencies and organizations. The parade was subsequently followed by a program at the Bontoc Municipal Grounds.
Political Affairs Chief Erlindo O. Agwilang, representing Congressman Maximo Y. Dalog, Jr., highlighted that the National Women’s Month/Day observance aligns with Proclamation No. 224, s. 1988, Proclamation No. 227, s. 1988, and the Republic Act No. 6949.
Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr.’s Provincial Administrator, Franklin C. Odsey, said that the event was an honor to all women, recognizing their important qualities. He commended women for their tenacity, cunning, bravery, kindness, and love.
“Strength of spirit combined with an abundance of grace are the desirable attributes of women. You are blessed with an inner strength that allows you to excel, and an amazing grace that brings joy and comfort to your homes,” stated Odsey.
Women’s Day serves as a reminder for women to support one another and fight for women’s rights, and it also serves as a platform for men to advance gender equality and inclusivity, according to Mayor Jerome B. Tudlong, Jr.Meanwhile, Dr. Virginia D. Akiate, who was an instructor and official in the College during its years as a community college and early years as a state college graced the celebration as the Guest Speaker. She discussed the ongoing challenges women face, including the gender pay gap, education disparities, gender-based violence, and limited participation in the workforce, among others. She encouraged women to remain resilient and empowered, achievable by living within their means and being true to themselves.
Other highlights of the celebrations include songs, dances, and karate presentation by children that added more meaning to the day’s celebrations. Also, beauty care services were rendered to interested women like haircut and pedicure-manicure. According to Provincial Population and Development Office Head Eunice G. Andaya, this treats for Women’s Day were sponsored by Cong. Dalog in coordination with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
College officials and personnel participated in the National Women’s Day civic parade and program.Personnel and students composing the MPSPC MOVE and the Performing Arts Group respectively rendered intermissions during the program.
