Bontoc, MPโ€”The University joined the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) Kick-Off Activity spearheaded by the Provincial Local Government of Mountain Province today, 25 November 2025.

The event began with an advocacy fun walk and concluded with a formal program at the Provincial Plaza.

Representatives from MPSU walked alongside employees of provincial offices, national government agencies, civil society organizations, and community advocates. Participants marched through key roads in the capital town, carrying messages of solidarity and commitment to strengthening the fight against gender-based violence.

During the opening program, Provincial Administrator John K. Likigan emphasized that addressing VAW requires consistent and collective action. He called on communities, institutions, and individuals to take active roles in promoting awareness, supporting victims and survivors, and fostering environments where respect and equality are upheld.

Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member Janice L. Barillo also highlighted the importance of challenging norms and practices that enable violence to persist. She stressed that eliminating VAW is not only a campaign goal but a shared responsibility that requires engaging both men and women as partners in creating a safer society.

One of the highlights of the event was the Pledge of Commitment, led by June C. Pinayakan, President of the Men Opposed to Violence Against Women Everywhere (MOVE). All participants pledged to speak up against gender-based violence, refuse to tolerate abusive behavior, support gender-responsive policies, and create inclusive spaces where women and girls can thrive without fear.

MPSU, as an institution dedicated to gender-responsive education and advocacy, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local and national initiatives that strengthen womenโ€™s rights, empower young people, and promote community-wide participation in ending violence.

The 18-Day Campaign to End VAW is an annual national observance from November 25 to December 12, designed to raise awareness on the protection of the rights, dignity, and welfare of Filipino women and girls across the country.
