
Mountain Province State University (MPSU) proudly took part in the Seedling Drive: Seedling Planting Initiative activity, a DOST- funded project entitled “Production and Biodiversity Conservation of Wild Tea Plants in Mountain Province” that was held on December 11-13, 2025 at Bontoc, Barlig, and Bauko, Demonstration Farms. The initiative thrived in partnership with Local Government Units (LGUs) and active participation of project members and staffs, farmers, police officers, and MPSU students.
The aim to transplant one hundred (100) seedlings of Decaspermum fruticosum (wild tea) on each demonstration farm started at Mainit, Bontoc on December 11, 2025. In addition, project participants went to Samoki to get D. fruticosum fruits which will be used for another batch of propagation since typhoon Uwan destroyed thousands of seedlings.
On the second day, project leader Dr. Lichelyn Nasungan and Dr. Alexander Baldic, had a pre-orientation with the cooperating units of Barlig LGU and uniformed personnel about the distance of the plants prior to transplanting.
On the third day, the initiative activity continued focusing in the cleaning preparation of demo farm at Bauko demonstration farm
The three- day activity aims to strengthen community managed D. fruticosum gardens across the Bontoc, Barlig and Bauko demo farms, promoting in-situ conservation and sustainable utilization.
