METRO MANILA – Mountain Province State University (MPSU), through President Dr. Edgar G. Cue, highlighted Project ClimaPestDetect during the live broadcast of Radyo Siyensya held at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Building in Quezon City today, June 5.
The live talk featured Project ClimaPestDetect and its contribution to climate-smart agriculture through the use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies. During the program, Dr. Cue highlighted the DOST-CAR-funded initiative, which helps farmers in Mountain Province detect and manage pests and diseases affecting highland crops. The project integrates a mobile application, a web-based monitoring dashboard, and AI-powered diagnostic tools developed using actual field data and farm images.
President Cue also shared the challenges encountered in developing the system, particularly in gathering localized agricultural data and training the AI model to accurately recognize crop symptoms under varying field conditions. Following validation and field testing, the system achieved an accuracy rate ranging from 75 to 95 percent.
Joining President Cue during the live broadcast was Department of Science and Technology-Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR) Regional Director Dr. Nancy A. Bantog, who emphasized that ClimaPestDetect helps farmers through faster and earlier detection of crop pests and diseases, enabling timely monitoring and informed decision-making to protect crops, improve yields, and increase farm productivity.
The project team members accompanying Dr. Cue were Mr. Geoffrey Alvin L. Ticangan, Mr. Jason A. Elias, and Mr. Hyacinth B. Dioso.
